Atabor Hamza Adenoyi, a final year student from the department of electronics and telecommunications Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University(A.B.U) Zaria.

I will like to thank Huawei Technologies for the opportunity of being a speaker in today's event. My journey with Huawei so far has been a thrilling one, for someone of my background and being African, I have to challenge myself to show Africa to the world. Before I go into some of the interesting highlights of my journey, I will like to use this opportunity to thank:
Mr Liao Yong - Huawei VP of SAR
Mr Ydo - Director a.i of UNESCO International Bureau of Education
all dignataries and viewers present.
Good day.

My name is Atabor Hamza Adenoyi, a final year student from the department of electronics and telecommunications Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University(A.B.U) Zaria.

My journey with Huawei Technologies started in October 2019 when I was granted the opportunity to observe internship at the headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria. I was very excited when I got the news because I knew things were going to be different and better from that time. Before that, I was a student of engineering who focused more on theoretical concepts in engineering as a result of my love for teaching. Although I had always wanted to perfect my skills in an ICT related field. My interest in the tech giant came to light during a brief seminar organized by the Huawei Technologies NG in 2018, after which I became aware of the multiple opportunities that are open to young and aspiring students. It was like a bank of ideas just standing before me waiting to be taken. I finally decided to invest time and focus in the field of computer networking and it became difficult at first because I was a beginner. But one thing I believe as a student is that when you say you can't do a thing, then you have defined a boundary or limit to what you can achieve. I became better over time and some of my lecturers and ICT academy instructors saw the interest and encouraged me to put in more effort.

I began the race for the Huawei ICT competition in August 2019 while observing my internship in Network Infrastructure and Security unit A.B.U. Zaria, where I would be able to increase my awareness of computer networking. The unit was lead by the head, Engineer Bashir Sani, who was also the lead instructor at the ICT academy. He is an expert in the field of Routing and switching and he very well knows how to nurture young talent to grow in the ICT-related fields. The former director of the Institute of Computing and ICT, Professor Muhammad Bashir Mu'azu, has always been supportive of the struggle, not just for me but for other students as well. I would call him my ICT father if I am allowed to. His words always leave a mark of inspiration. A kind that was good enough to lead two teams of 3 students each to China after conquering the national and Regional stages during the 2018/2019 ICT competition.

It was a beautiful moment for me as I was able to attend the Award ceremony held in Abuja. It was a really good motivation and I felt like recreating that moment the next day. As a young student patiently waiting for a good opportunity, Huawei Technologies NG organised a campus talk and job fair in October 2019, and the honourable event was graced by the presence of the former Director of Human Resources, enterprise business department, Ms Zheng Kunkun, and the Director of Huawei Nigeria Enterprise Delivery Department, Melissa Chenyanfeng. An exam was conducted which I passed well, and shortly after, I was granted the opportunity of observing my internship at the Huawei NG headquarters in Abuja. Those four months were the best for me as a student as I had the chance to work with top engineers in the industry. I had seen the coordination and good work attitude from the staff and Managers as well. Being there was more like an enabling environment for me to work harder and more efficiently. That student who was more focused on theoritical concepts, discovered better ways to make societal impact.

As a student in the race for the Huawei ICT competition, my team members and I have had a series of training both online and in the classroom to prepare us better for the task that lies ahead. We are also able to get certified in various fields. This is a competition that spans across multiple countries in South Africa at the regional stage, but Its more than a competition to me. I see it as an opportunity to show the world what we can do. Finally, I would like to end with an excerpt from the Huawei Network study guide, "Huawei is one of the leading ICT solution providers worldwide. Our vision is to enrich life through communication, and it is with this vision that we are able to leverage our ICT technologies and experience to help everyone bridge the digital divide and become a part of the information society so that all may enjoy the benefits of ICT services.

We endeavour to popularize ICT, facilitate education, and cultivate ICT talents, providing people with the tools necessary to build a fully connected world" So, I recommend that young people invest their time in ICT and put in more effort in learning. There are many opportunities and a lot of Huawei-related technologies in which one can develop his skill. Maybe in a few years, we'll have teenagers with good knowledge of ICT even at professional and expert levels. Skills that will bring about opportunities for the youth and development for the country.

And for those looking towards a bright future...

with Huawei, that future can be here much faster than you think.
